Nakovana (6km from Viganj) tells us intriguing stories: from an Illyrian shrine, Spila cave – a place for taking oaths and ritual dancing, the stone burial mounds, Norin – a fay spring, the oldest chapel on Pelješac, to the home of Ivan Lupis – the man who invented the torpedo, and much more

A hiking trail to Sveti Ilija, the highest peak of Pelješac which rises above Orebić at 961m, starts right next to our apartments. On the hiking trails there are two hiker’s huts. The view, of the islands and the sea on the one side and the snowcapped peaks of the Dinaric Alps on the other, is breathtaking.

Orebić (6km from Viganj) was the headquarters of the Pelješac Shipping Company which had 33 transatlantic ships in 1865. What is left of this glorious seafaring past you can see in the Maritime Museum. Furthermore, there is the Franciscan monastery and the church of Our Lady of the Angels from which you have a beautiful view of the surrounding area. The church is hailed with horns by passing ships in the Korčula Channel for blessing and protection. The chapel of the Holy Trinity in Kučište is the most luxurious baroque chapel in Dalmatia.

Kuna is a small town in the Pelješac interior where you can visit the birth house of the eminent painter Celestin Medović. Besides that, in wonderful natural surroundings lies the church of Our Lady of Loret with a monastery, there is a donkey farm and the Antunović rural household.

Ston lies where Pelješac connects with the mainland, enclosed by its magnificent city walls from the 14th century, the longest in this part of Europe. It is famous for the first salt pans in the region and the Bay of Mali Ston where the Kapetanova Kuća restaurant is located.

Žuljana is a paradise for passionate divers and underwater photographers. In its vicinity are numerous underwater caves, reefs, and even five shipwrecks.

You can reach Korčula by a passenger boat from Viganj which operates 3 times a day both ways. Korčula is ideal for an evening of enjoyment, a walk or dinner, while during the day you can visit one of the beautiful beaches. There are excursion boats from the harbour to the isles of Badija and Vrnik, Lumbarda or the sandy beach Bilin žal, as well as bus lines which cover destinations on the island. If you want to go by car, the ferry line operates every 30 minutes from Orebić, 6km from Viganj. Additionally, there are passenger boats from Orebić to Korčula which connect to the catamaran for Split. Korčula offers an abundance of restaurants and clubs, a summer movie theatre, a culture centre, as well as numerous museums, churches and galleries.

Mljet is the oldest national park in Croatia. You can reach it by ferry from Prapratno and from Trstenik (20km from Viganj). The beautiful woodlands, sandy beaches, the two lakes with the Isle of St. Mary where a church and convent from the 12th century lie, Odysseus’ Cave and many other sites attract numerous tourists.
